About Us
South East Grid for Learning (SEGfL) is a Regional Broadband Consortium (RBC) serving 11 member local authorities from across the South East. SEGfL is a not-for-profit organisation with just under 2,500 schools making us one of the largest RBCs in England. East Sussex County Council is the lead authority for the consortium, hosting all staff and facilities for SEGfL.
One of our key roles is to save our Local Authorities and schools money through the aggregated procurement. We achieve this through regional agreements and EU Frameworks for ICT services, cloud solutions and educational resources.
We offer all our schools a secure private connection through Jisc to the UK Research and Academic Network (Janet). This gives our customers all the advantages of being part of the Janet network and JISC community. As well as providing a very high capacity, state of the art network, Jisc also runs several services for its community. Through SEGfL, we can offer our members access to these services including discounted SSL certificates, procurement Frameworks and a level of network security services provided by the JISC security team. .
SEGfL is an active member of NEN – The Education Network www.nen.gov.uk and all SEGfL schools are entitled to access and use the full suite of NEN resources from their school network. This is an ever-expanding collection of high quality teaching and learning resources that include a copyright free image gallery, as well as material from the BBC, British Library, Scott Polar Research Institute and the National Theatre (see our Learning section for all the resources).
Additionally, through the NEN working groups, the NEN provides advice and guidance in the areas of online safety and technical strategy. SEGfL plays an active role in these groups and ensures information and expertise is shared through our region.
